The Finnish Museum of the Deaf merges with Labor Museum Werstas

Dear All,

The Finnish Museum of the Deaf has merged with the Finnish Labour Museum Werstas, based in the city of Tampere (Central Finland). The merger took place in the beginning of 2012.

At the moment the Finnish Museum of the Deaf is moving all its objects to Tampere. Small exhibitions will take place even later on in Helsinki, at the Finnish Association of the Deaf.

We would like to extend a warm-hearted thank to to all supporters in our campaign to sustain this wonderful, unique museum! The campaign  was not in vain - our  museum was saved - which is a true miracle in these times when so many small historical museums are being closed.

The Museum of the Deaf will be closed "temporarily"

Save the Finnish Museum of the Deaf -petition is now closed. Warm thanks to all of you that signed our petition! Unfortunately, the Finnish Association of the Deaf has decided to close -  "temporarily" - its unique museum.

Save the Finnish Museum of the Deaf  -network organised even a manifestation on 11th of June before the beginning of the annual meeting of the General Assembly of FAD (The Finnish Association of the Deaf). Despite of approximately 1600 signatures collected by the three petitions and wide interest raised in the local and international media (see e.g. BBC's See & Hear 25th of May 2011), the assembly accepted the proposal of the Board of FAD : to close "temporarily" the museum due to "financial reasons". This means that the precious collections of the museum are now being wrapped and packed to be stored in order to wait for the future actions of FAD.

Save the Finnish Museum of the Deaf / Pelastakaa Kuurojen museo -network will follow and report constantly on its Facebook-pages about the developments regarding the museum. The news will be translated even to English. The Facebook-pages will be udated till the end of this year.
