Helsingin hallinto-oikeus on tänään asettanut Maahanmuutoviraston maaliskuussa tekemän Jawaran maastakarkoituspäätöksen täytäntöönpanokieltoon. Nyt Jawara voi asustella Suomessa vapaasti, hallinto-oikeuden varsinaista asiankäsittelyä odotellen. Käsittelyajat ovat pitkiä, ja päätöstä voi odottaa noin vuoden kuluttua.
Vetoomuksemme on silti tarkoitus toimittaa perille, sillä suomalaisviranomaisten, kuten Maahanmuutoviraston hallintokäytännöissä on paljon parannettavaa. Jawaran tapauksessa esim. virasto viittasi kintaalla kansainvälisesti monin tahoin todetun Gambiassa vaikuttavan homovainon olemassaoloon. Toiseksi, virasto ei soveltanut kansainvälisten pakolaissopimusten mukaista periaatetta, jossa vainon perusteella turvapaikkaa hakevan kertomuksaan olisi suhtauduttava suopeudella.
